Hail to King Lear!
Still a time of obedience
Goneril, the eldest daughter, flattering King Lear
Regan, the second daughter, also tells her father how much she loves him.
The faithful, youngest daughter Cordelia, speaking the truth only
His most beloved daughter Cordelia is banned from the court.
Lear would not listen to anyone.
The kingdom has been divided, but not into three parts.
The older daughters' plan has worked, and they get what they wanted.
The King of France, however, takes to Cordelia.
The elder daughters seem 'loyal' to the king.
Goneril and Regan
Edmund's monologue, about his father (The Duke of Gloucester) and his brother (Edgar). Edmund, the bastard son, has got no land.
Edmund and the Duke of Gloucester, his father.
Edmund starts to betray father and brother, scheming against them.
Gloucester tricked by a faked letter.
Conversation between .half brothers
Edmund telling Edgar lies about his father, scheming again.
King Lear drinking with his knights, Goneril disgusted by this behaviour.
Goneril wants Oswald, her servant, to act against the king.
King Lear's fool tries to make him think.
Harsh words. Albany, Goneril's husband, watching them, hesitating.
Lear, leaving the first daughter, on the way to his second daughter, Regan.
Edmund and the trap set for Edgar, his brother.
Edgar is told to flee into the woods and storms.
Edmund has wounded himself - he blames his brother Edgar for this crime.
Distrust between father – Gloucester – and his true son and heir, Edgar.
Gloucester disappointed that his son Edgar seems to be a traitor.
Gloucester making the wrong decisions
Lear and Regan. Lear getting angry, being treated like an old fool.
His daughters want to take his 100 knights away.
Step by step they reduce the number allowed to him.
Gloucester does not trust Goneril and Regan.
He is about to start planning against them.
Lear meets Crazy Tom.
Actually, this is Edgar, son of Gloucester -
Edgar is hiding so that nobody will recognize him.
King Lear and Crazy Tom. Lear admires the fools.
Edmund tells Regan that Gloucester is about to betray them.
Gloucester has dealt with the King of France.
Gloucester is taken prisoner by Regan.
Instruments brought in for torturing and blinding Gloucester
What a cruel person! Regan blinding Gloucester.
A blind man can see into the hearts of his opponents.
Gloucester faces the truth.
A servant leading Gloucester away so that he can meet Crazy Tom - his true son Edgar
Edmund happy to be the new Duke of Gloucester. Albany sceptical.
Cordelia and the French army arrive
Tom - Edgar plotting to help his desperate, blinded father,
pretending that Gloucester is about to drop from a high cliff
God, it seems, let him live.
Gloucester getting new motivation to live on.
Gloucester meeting Lear, who is completely insane now.
Oswald, Goneril's servant and messenger, attacking Gloucester.
Tom – Edgar kills Oswald to protect his father.
Lear and Cordelia meeting again. They find to each other.
Both are imprisoned by Regan and Goneril.
On the way to death by hanging
A quarrel. The two sister are attracted by Edmund, they kissed, but it wasn't love.
Poison for Regan, and a knife for Goneril, who stabs herself.
Edgar appears as a knight without a name.
A fight between brothers.
Goneril dying, Edmund deadly wounded.
Albany reading Goneril's letter, that Edgar took from her servant Oswald. Now Albany has proof that Edmund is a cheater.
Edgar and Albany. Albany faces the truth.
Farewell between brothers. Dying Edmund tells Edgar about their plans with Lear and Cordelia.
Lear is rescued, Cordelia is dead.
Lear can't believe it.
Lear has to realize the death of his daughter, and dies of agony.
Edgar the new king. The monarchy has been restored.
Applause! Called before the curtain.
